My 3 Tips for Beating the Winter Blues

My 3 Tips for Beating the Winter Blues

If you're feeling a little blue, I can promise you, you are not alone.

Like never before, our nervous systems needs a little extra love.

Here are my top 3 tips for feeling good in winter:

1.) Skip the super restrictive diets. Under fueling or cutting out entire food groups can have a negative impact on your mood. Diet rules are only useful if you feel great following them. If not, blaze your own trail and focus on nourishing your body and brain. Stay well hydrated, and focus on eating from all of the major food groups - protein, healthy fat and carbs from a variety of fruit, veggies, legumes and whole grains.

2.) B-complex vitamins, vitamin D and omega 3 create a solid foundation for your brain and nervous system to operate from, providing the raw materials you need to weather the season. And don't forget about those good bugs for your gut. Probiotics play a critical role in mood and mental health, so be sure to eat fibre rich foods and take a multi-strain probiotic to top you up on gut-friendly bacteria.

3) Rest & Recharge. Suffering with poor quality or too little sleep sets you up for all kinds of challenges during your waking hours. Your energy and mood can drop, cravings kick up, and you get caught in a vicious cycle of feeling bad and repeating habits that will only make you feel worse. Don't take your sleep for granted. If you're not sleeping well, it will be extremely hard for you to feel well. There are lots of natural, non-habit forming options to help get your sleep back on track.
